Cates Park, North Vancouver, British Columbia

American Coot (Mud Hen) at Burnaby Lake

We saw this funny-looking bird at nearby Burnaby Lake. It has huge feet and they're not webbed like a duck, but with long toes with scalloped edges that flare out. They're called American Coots, but I like the nickname Mud Hen or Marsh Hen better, because their heads bob while they move.
